Best Brushes For Peekapoo
PetEd Slicker Brush
My brush of choice and #1 recommendation is the PetEd Slicker Brush.
This brush really stands out from the rest and wins on almost every criterion I used to assess each brush.
Here are my favorite aspects and why I rate it so highly.
- It’s a respectable, fair price.
- It was designed with poodle-hybrid dogs/coats in mind.
- It’s effortless to clean and prevents a mess in your home.
- It’s built to last and is incredibly versatile.
Sounds good, right?
Well, that’s because it is.
Especially on the Peekapoo dog coat.
In fact, this brush does a terrific job at removing tangles, knots, and matts. And it does so safely, effectively, and comfortably for your dog.
Then there is the self-cleaning functionality.
This is essentially how it works.
You brush your Peekapoo, working through the full length of the coat.
As you do so, the pins of the brush will actively collect any loose hair and dander from your Peekapoo.
When you are finished brushing, all you then need to do is head over to a bin, press the central button, and the hair will be released.
You then wipe the hair clean off the brush directly in the bin.
So no messy home and hair all over the place.
It’s a great size and color too!

We Love Doodles Slicker Brush
Ranking at #2 is the slicker brush by We Love Doodles.
It’s a great brush for most poodle-doodle-hybrid breeds, but here’s the catch.
It’s large.
Perhaps even too large for a small Peekapoo!
So while it has great customer reviews and while it ticks a lot of boxes in terms of quality, it’s not the easiest to use on the Peekapoo breed.
And it was quite expensive too.
Plus, it requires manual cleaning – no self-cleaning functionality to be found or seen.
So add these three things together, and you have a brush that can only come in second place.
Still, it works for many, so be sure to take a look:

What Type Of Brush Is Best For A Peekapoo?
Slicker brushes are the most effective style of brush for Peekapoos.
Now, I don’t know how much you may have looked into the types and styles of brushes.
You may already know this.
But if not, it’s essential to know.
Basically, not all brushes are suitable for all dogs.
It depends on their coat, whether they have fur/hair, length, etc.
This is why you see different types of brushes out there, be it a rake, bristle, double-sided, pin, etc.
Then there is the slicker.
Now slickers are ideal for poodle-hybrid breeds, such as a Peekapoo.
They have been purposefully designed for use on curly, wavy, and non-shedding coats.
They do a much better job at coats that are prone or experience tangles, matts, and/or knots.
Plus, slicker brushes also collect hair and dander directly off the coat. Making them much more user-friendly, too.
How Do You Brush A Peekapoo?
You brush a Peekapoo by focusing on each body area at a time. Brushing away and toward your dog, being sure to ease and work through any tangles you encounter along the way.
It is relatively straightforward; you’ll be pleased to hear.
Especially with a slicker.
Just make sure you do not accidentally neglect any part of the coat. This is why it is advised to start on a specific body area and do only one at a time.
For instance, do the legs first.
Then the body.
Then the face.
You also need to make sure you are firm with the brush but not too firm.
And if you encounter any resistance along the way. Be careful not to pull away too quickly, as this can cause your dog pain.
So, if you encounter a knot/tangle, gently ease through it until it loosens.
When To Brush Your Peekapoo
It is considered best to brush your Peekapoo early in the morning, evening, or after a long walk when they are tired.
Essentially, you just need your Peekapoo to sit still.
So whatever time this is, that’s when you should brush.
You want them to be calm and composed, which often occurs when they are tired.
Nevertheless, if your Peekapoo has a laid-back temperament, there is no reason in why you couldn’t necessarily brush them in the middle of the day.
How Often Should You Brush A Peekapoo?
You should brush your Peekapoo daily, or at the very least 2-3x per week.
That’s a general suggestion and approach.
But it may need to be tailored depending on your Peekapoos coat and length.
Generally, the longer the coat is, or the more matted it is (or prone to matting), the more frequently they should be brushed.
Most owners find brushing sessions little and often work best.
And this way, it can be done during a cuddle without the need for a longer dedicated grooming session.
Keep an eye on your Peekapoos coat, and brush as and when you need to.
You should find that by keeping on top of it, the amount of brushing during each grooming session reduces.
Indicators that you are brushing enough include no tangles or knots are developing, and the coat looks shiny and in general good condition.
One thing you need to make sure doesn’t happen is coat knotting.
This will be painful for your dog, especially when you/or your groomer attempts to brush these tangles out.
In the worst-case scenario, if it gets too bad, your groomer may even shave off the entire coat.
Not something you or your dog would want.
And lastly – be sure to brush your Peekapoo when they are still a young puppy.
Get them used to the process, the sensations, and the experience.
You should find that the coat grows out better this way, and grooming sessions later in their life are easier too.
