What Type Of Brush Is Best For A Poochon?
Slicker brushes are considered the best type and style of brush for Poochons and other poodle-hybrid breeds.
This may or may not be a surprise, depending on how much research you’ve put in thus far.
However, for those of you who are new to brushes, the below summarizes it pretty quickly.
Not all brushes are the same.
That’s because they are designed with different dogs (of different sizes and coat types) in mind.
This is why you may see:
- Rake brushes,
- Bristle Brushes
- Pin Brushes
Among others, when you start researching.
Though, for poodle-hybrid breeds, Slicker Brushes are ideal.

How Do You Brush A Poochon?
Brushing a Poochon is a relatively simple process. You just need to brush through each area of the body carefully – starting with the legs before proceeding to the body and face.
A good motion is up and away – in toward your Poochon.
Be firm yet careful as you brush.
If you encounter a knot or tangle, gently work your way through it, brushing out the knots.
Give yourself plenty of time, and don’t rush!
Be mindful of sensitive areas, too.
It’s a good idea to work on one body part at a time, so you don’t forget to brush anywhere.
So, either the face or legs are good starting points.
When To Brush Your Poochon
It is best to brush your Poochon when they are calm and most likely to sit still.
So, this could be after a long walk, in the evening, or just before bed.
That being said, as long as your Poochon is willing and able to sit still and be relaxed, then it’s a good time.
How Often Should You Brush A Poochon?
It is recommended to brush your Poochon every day. However, 2-3x per week may suffice depending on the length of your Poochons coat.
Ultimately, how often you brush depends on the condition of your dog’s coat.
You may find your Poochon requires more regular grooming or less. It’s an individual thing.
As an example, Poochons with longer coats will likely need more regular brushing.
Nonetheless, you should brush enough to ensure no matts, tangles, or knots develop.
You should find that with more frequent brushing, the total time you have to brush reduces.
It will also likely be more comfortable on your dog, and their coat will be in better condition, generally.
One thing is for sure, do not let the coat get heavily matted!
That could result in a full shave at the groomers.
Not something that is pleasant for you or your dog!

Be sure to brush your Poochon soon after bringing them home when they are still a young puppy.
