Shih Tzu Rescues In Florida [Adoption Directory Guide]

Do you want to adopt a Shih Tzu in the Sunshine State?

Well, you are going to need to know of all the rescues in Florida rescues in order to be able to do so.

And Shih Tzu rescues, specifically.

This adoption directory guide aims to provide you with all of the options, including the contact information you will need to start the process.

So, let’s walk you through them.

Shih Tzu Rescue

Shih Tzu and Lap Dog Rescue, Inc (simply known as Shih Tzu Rescue) is a 501c Public Charity and dedicated rescue for the Shih Tzu breed and other companion dogs. They are based out of South Florida.

Most dogs are voluntarily surrendered to the rescue by their owners.

All dogs at Shih Tzu Rescue are neutered, tested for heartworms and parasites, receive medical attention (including dental), and given all required shots.

They are then temporarily placed in foster homes or in the rescues sanctuary kennel until they are made available for adoption.

Underdog Rescue of Florida

Underdog Rescue of Florida is a non-profit 501(c) organization and all-volunteer rescue. As a foster-based rescue, all their dogs are living in temporary homes prior to being placed in their forever homes.

While not a Shih Tzu rescue specifically, they have been known to have this breed available and are certainly worth making an enquiry with.

They are a recommended rescue of the South Florida Shih Tzu Rescue and Adoption – which had to cease rescuing during 2020.

Abby’s Little Friends Dog Rescue

Abby’s Little Friends Rescue is a not-for-profit (501(c)(3), no-kill organization that is dedicated to rescuing small dogs and other pets.

This rescue provides all animals with the health care and love that they need, evaluating them for behavior and temperament, before placing them in loving forever homes.

Again this is not a Shih Tzu rescue and may not have a dog available at the time of your search.

But, they are the secondary recommended rescue of the South Florida Shih Tzu Rescue and Adoption – which as referenced above, ceased rescuing during 2020.

How Much Does It Cost To Adopt A Shih Tzu In Florida?

You can generally expect to pay anywhere from $150-$300 to adopt a Shih Tzu In Florida.

This adoption fee is generally taken to help cover the expenses of the rescues and to recompensate for all the required medical expenses and care provided for the dog.

Finally

There is only one main Shih Tzu rescue in the state of Florida.

Unfortunately, the second had little choice but to stop taking in rescues, and as such, will not have the dog for you.

You can still contact them, though if you did want to make some connections and perhaps get some advice on adopting one of these dogs.

Other than that, the place to look is the general rescues in the state.

Just be mindful that with a few rescues, it may take some time to find the right dog for you.

Added to the fact that the adoption process usually involves quite a few hurdles.

That’s to ensure that there is the right fit between dog and owner.

It’s only right.

So do expect to be screened carefully to ensure you understand and accept the responsibilities of adopting a rescue.

You’ll likely need to fill out application forms, complete reference checks and sometimes you may even need to have a home visit as a pre-adoption requirement.

So do stay patient and dedicated to the process.

Get in contact with the rescues above and register your interest.

In doing so you will find the right Shih Tzu for you when the time is right.
